Metro Wheels is dedicated to addressing the nutritional needs of seniors in New York City through our robust meal programs, including Meals on Wheels and local congregate meal sites. Many older adults face challenges accessing nutritious food due to mobility issues or isolation. By donating, you help us deliver meals that not only nourish but also provide critical wellness checks for our city’s most vulnerable residents.
Your contribution can truly make a difference. Each dollar you donate goes directly towards transporting meals to seniors who might otherwise go hungry. A single vehicle donation can fund the delivery of hundreds of meals, making it a powerful way to leverage your support for our senior nutrition initiatives.

↗Real impact, real numbers
Your generous donations can have a huge impact on our community. For example, a contribution of $1,500 can fund over 200 home-delivered meals, providing essential nutrition and safety checks for homebound seniors. If you choose to donate $2,500, that could support up to 400 meals at a local congregate center, helping seniors gather for social engagement and healthy eating. Every meal delivered not only provides sustenance but also fosters a sense of connection and care among our senior citizens.
How we vet recipient partners
At Metro Wheels, we ensure that our partner nonprofits are trustworthy and meet high accountability standards. We prioritize agencies that are contracted by Area Agencies on Aging, are members of the Meals on Wheels America network, and comply with the Older Americans Act Title III-C nutrition standards. We also focus on programs that have no waiting list or only a short waiting list, indicating that they have sufficient funding to operate effectively.
How proceeds flow
Once vehicles are donated, we handle the towing and processing costs, which typically cover 20-30% of the gross proceeds. The remaining funds, approximately 70-80%, are allocated to our partner agencies. After this, we apply a program ratio to ensure that a substantial portion directly supports senior meal programs, maximizing the impact of every vehicle donated.
New York recipient landscape
New York City is home to a diverse population of seniors, many of whom face food insecurity and isolation. The demand for nutritious meals is growing, and while there are state-level funding initiatives, they often fall short of meeting the needs of all seniors. Metro Wheels works diligently to fill this gap, ensuring that local meal programs are funded and seniors receive the support they need.
